To Sum it All Up!

Well all good things must come to an end. I'm finished with my blog assignment! Thinking about all of these media contacts in my life i have really put a lot of thought about my future in the  media. When i'm in my car listening to the radio, i get jealous of how the radio DJs get to spend their morning laughing and having a good time while picking out music for people like me to listen to as they drive to their boring English class. When i get home from a looooong day of school, then band, then work, i thank god that my DVR has recorded my favorite television shows that i would have missed out on because of my busy schedule. Right now i feel thankful for Tim Bernes-Lee for his role in the creation of the Internet, because without it i wouldn't be able to be writing this post for my blog or creep on what my friends are doing via facebook. Finally when i turn on my TV i'm VERY thankful that i don't have to see anymore campaign commercials for at least the rest of this year, but unfortunately i still have to see those annoying geico commercials.

Because of this blog assignment, i have put a lot more thought into my media contacts and my future in the media.

I'm Sarah Brown and I approve this message.

so today is ELECTION DAY, you know what i'm most excited about!? all those stinkin election commercials NOT being on TV! i swear sometimes commercials get out of hand. one day i'm gonna turn on the TV and hear "Blanch Lincoln KILLS puppies! Im John Boozeman and I approve this message." thats how ridiculous those commercials are.

you know what other commercials are really stupid. car lot and furniture commercials. i know they're really low budget but still, enough with the cheese factor. there is this new commercial for a car lot or furniture (i can't think of which one because they're both so annoying that they blend together) and it has this little fat man yelling about all the deals they have going on and then at the end of the commercial he gets hit by a car. its SO cheesy. oh local commercials.

then there are those companies that come out with one funny commercial, but then they decide to make even more of the same exact commercial. such as Gieco caveman (i HATE these), gecko, and cash commercials, and Progressive's Flo commercials, and etrades baby commercial. Gieco's commercials can get really annoying. seriously the caveman thing was kind of funny the first time it aired, but now they just need to stop with it. recently Gieco came out with a commercial that still makes me giggle when i see it. its the commercial where the guy says "Can Gieco really save you a lot of money on car insurance? Did the little piggy really cry wee wee wee all the way home?" then it shows a pig hanging out of a car window with pin wheels squealing. idk why but the commercial if really funny.

annoying commercials make me REALLY glad that i have a DVR. :)

TV Journalist

when i'm asked "what are you majoring in?" i naturally reply "broadcast journalism", then i seem to ALWAYS get "oh you want to read the news every evening".......... not exactly. i'm not interested in being an anchor AT ALL. all anchors are, are pretty faces that can read a prompter and take direction. i want to be the person behind the camera giving them those directions. my dream is to either direct a news show or produce. i want to be the person running around all stressed out trying to put the show together. i love being able to make decisions and giving orders. i'm kind of a bossy person so the position of director/producer would just come naturally for me. whenever i watch the movie "The Ugly Truth" i see Katherine Heigal's character at her producing job and think "thats going to be me." and now this new movie is come out, its called "Morning Glory". its about a female television producer who is in charge of reviving a failing TV news show. i'm definitely going to have to go see it.

i'm totally ok with starting out as a camera person or stage hand. i would also love to sometime during my broadcasting career get the opportunity to make packages to air on the news. i REALLY enjoy getting to go out and create a story and getting to interview people. its exciting getting to show people and say "yeah, i made that." but hopefully i eventually make my way up to the top where i want to be.

thebomb.com

where would we be today without the invention of the internet? does anyone ever think about this when they're checking their email, updating their facebook status, or even typing a new blog post?

its amazing to think about how FAST information can be accessed through the internet. what's the population of Mobile, Alabama? 198,915. how long did it take to find that. approx 30 seconds. THANK YOU, Wikipedia. if i didn't have the internet and needed to know that, it would take 30 minutes to go into the library, find the right encyclopedia, turn to the right page, and read through until i found the number AND EVEN THEN, that info might not be very up-to-date. but thanks to Tim Bernes-Lee, we now have the wonderful WORLD WIDE WEB to search for all our answers.

Facebook is also a pretty awesome invention as well. Its really neat using it now after i saw the movie "The Social Network" (which i WAS gonna do for my Movie Review choice assignment BUT forgot to print it off in time to turn it in, therefore did not get to turn it in even though i did the assignment, i'm very heartbroken about it Professor Purvis, if you're reading this) ANYWAYS. i liked getting to see how everything started. its interesting that it started at one ivy league college and now is used by almost EVERYONE. its like a disease thats spread all over the world. i like how you can learn someones name one second and the next you can get on your iPhone and know lots about them through a simple facebook search. SUPER CREEPY, but still really cool.

there's another cool invention. the Iphone! i love how we went from giant brick phones to small computer phones. you can do almost anything with the iphone that you can do with a computer. EVEN web chat now with the iPhone 4. my boyfriend and i are ALWAYS arguing about whether the iPhone or the Droid is a better phone. sorry honey, the iPhone 4 has a web cam. WIN. also as i always argue, Words with Friends. iPhone has it;, Droid doesn't.

a face for radio?

I always thought it would be cool to be a radio DJ. Sadly though, when I was in high school I asked one of my communication teachers about being one and she informed me that radio DJs really don't get payed that much, which made me sad. BUT I still want to be one sometimes.

I like listening to the DJs talk in the morning when I drive to school. Unless of course I'm in a bad mood or running late then I just plug in my iPod and drive really fast. I mostly enjoy listening to them make fun of things. For example the other day I was listening to the AMX 104.9 and they were making fun of Justin Biebers autobiography. It gave me a good laugh while I was sitting in my car waiting for the green bus. The only time I really like when the DJs talk is in the morning. In the evening I don't like when the DJs talk. I just want to listen to music. I especially HATE listening to Delilah and Dawson Mcalister. Delilah just annoys me, and as for Dawson, well I don't really want to hear about other peoples problems when I turn on my radio, I want to hear todays hit music.

I've also always wanted to get to pick the music that plays on the radio. When I was younger I would open my windows and play my NSYNC and Brittany Spears CDs and pretend like I was a DJ playing music for my whole neighborhood. Luckily today, if I don't like what is on the radio then I can easily plug in my Ipod and DJ for my ride home/to school.

DVR was a magical invention.

i'm feeling super random so i'm going to make a list of my weekly shows and why i choose to watch each show.

Monday:
WEEDS
-this show was really good when it first started. i liked the plot line of a suburban house wife selling pot to other adults in her community. but then it started to get weird. mostly when the community burned down and the family moved. then she got involved in mexican drug smuggling and ended up marrying the mexican drug king and had his baby and now the show is just weird. BUT i'm still giving it a chance in hopes it will go back to being a really good show.

Tuesday:
GLEE
- i, and the rest of america, LOVE LOVE LOVE this show. its usually really happy sappy and filled with a message at the end of every episode but i love musicals and i love that this show almost doesn't have a filter, for goodness sakes this weeks episode had a lesbian scene. i like that they use a variety of music too. they have their 80's classics, new popular music, hip-hop, and even broadway songs that no one has ever heard of! its GREAT!

Raising Hope
- this show is new so i thought i would give it a try. the commercials for it had me kind of confused. at first i thought it was about a young guy who FINDS a baby and decides to keep it, but really its about a young guy who gets a convict pregnant and then has to keep the baby when the mom gets the electric chair. its a pretty funny show. its kind of weird because the young guy has a REALLY weird family that he lives with, but i guess that adds to the comedy of it. its only 30 min long which is really annoying. i like shows to be an hour long. can't they find more funny stuff to add to the show to make it an hour long. i've noticed that most comedy shows are only 30 min long. i wonder if its because the TV networks think people can't be entertained by funny for more than 30 min at a time.

 Thursday:
The Big Bang Theory
- the nerd in me really likes this show. it has a lot of pop culture and its hilarious. sure i don't understand any of the physics that they talk about but still it makes me laugh. i don't like that this show is only 30 min long. way too short.

CSI
- i've watched this show for a while, but then i stopped because it got really boring. lately it seems to be more interesting again so i've started watching it more. not much to talk about. its an hour long which i like. :)

Saturday:
SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
- this show really never gets old. its been on FOREVER. its SOOOOOO funny. i love quoting and reminiscing old sketches with my friends. "hey mary, did you watch that Gilly sketch this weekend" "heck yeah, it was hilarious" (not a real conversation). when i went to New York with my high school band we took a tour of NBC studios and got to see the set for SNL. it was ridiculously SMALL  i never imagined it being as little as it really was. TV makes it look like they're in a gigantic studio, it must be magic or something.

Sunday
- i usually just watch whatever is on E!. "Keeping up with the Kardashians" never gets old.

i seriously would not be able to watch all this TV if it wasn't for DVR. i just don't have time to sit and watch them at their normally scheduled times.
so, THANK YOU, the inventor of DVR.

college life.

well i'm probably gonna have to start my media assignment soon. i'm gonna have a few post about random media things so i hope everyone enjoys my rambling about the media.

recently i've really liked living the college life. i like waking up and knowing that i can choose whether to go to class or not. of course its really good to actually GO to class but having the choice is really nice. some of the classes are supermega boring but luckily i get to take my computer AND use my cell phone. i'm pretty sure if i couldn't i would die. or sleep in every class. college band is really great too. practice is really relaxed and everyone is really good and dedicated. performing at football games is amazing especially when the game is at cowboys stadium! the only thing i would have to complain about is all the stinkin sandwiches we eat on road trips. I WANT WARM FOOD! i just really like all the freedom in college. it makes me excited for going out into the "real world" whenever that may be!

Sucessful Weekend!

first off, date night was fantastic! we both decided to dress up in nice clothes to make the night more special. David looked great in his ACU's. we went to dinner at Sho Gun which i was worried about because david is a picky eater. but it was fine, dinner was fantastic, and some nice man payed for our dinner. we didn't know who it was but we think it was this guy who came up to us and thanked David for serving.
After dinner we went to a late showing of The Social Network. it was a GREAT movie. i think david thought it was boring and thats understandable because it had its slow moments. but all in all i really enjoyed it.

lets see. the Dallas trip was AWESOME. i sat by Ashley on the way there and we kept ourselves quite entertained. the hotel we stayed in (Hilton) was REAL nice. it was made of all glass on the outside which looked SO cool from the highway. then on saturday the game in the Cowboys dome was AMAZING, biggest stinkin TV i have ever seen. and the sound was incredible. and OF COURSE we won!

and then on sunday i got to spend one last evening with David before he left monday morning. very emotional. but luckily he won't be gone as long as he was for basic and this time i can talk to him on his phone and on the computer. so everything should be good :)))

DATE NIGHT!

well today should be a really good day/sad day. since i'm gonna be out of town for the next two days and David is leaving on Sunday we decided to have a date night tonight. its gonna have all the works. dinner, movie, dessert, cute clothes. lol but i'm gonna be super sad when the night is over.

but besides that the next two days should be GREAT! tomorrow morning we're headed out @ 8 30am Dallas bound! i'm all prepared for the bus ride up there. i've got my snacks, pillow, blanket, magazines, music, compute, homework (bleh), and movies! i'll most likely end up just doing homework or sleeping. i have a paper that i have to finish for english that will probably take up most of my bus ride. but thats ok cause once we're in Dallas its gonna be a PAR-TAY! i'm so so so excited.

Tyler really wants to be put in this post because he is sitting by me in class. well tyler...here you go. you're famous.

college assignment or new interest?

Hey everyone (who reads this),

well this mostly just for an assignment for my journalism class, but it might be the start of something i like to do. i really like writing down my feelings or random thoughts so this might be perfect for me.

lets start with how much my feet are hurting today. New boots+ walking across campus= new blisters. awesome. luckily my geology lab teacher was nice enough to find me a bandaid so i didn't rub my ankle completely raw. Oh btw i really dislike geology. not only is the lecture class the most boring thing i've ever had to sit through but the lab is kinda hard. all those stinkin rocks look the same! i just took my midterm for that class this morning and even with my little notecard filled with microscopic notes written on it, i still feel like i did bad. :/

well failing midterms aside... this weekend should be pretty fun. i get to skip all of my classes on friday to travel to Dallas with the RMB. then the game Saturday in COWBOYS STADIUM should be fun! GO HOGS, BEAT AGIES!!
But then Sunday won't be fun at all. David is leaving again to go to his station in Georgia. :( SO far away! last night we bought him a laptop and we both figured out how to skype with each other. which means i'll at least get to see his face on the computer. it still really sucks though, especially if he gets shipped off soon. that will REALLY suck.

hm well that seems like enough for now. hopefully i'll keep this thing updated fairly often.

-Sarah
